I propose an airport in the general vicinity of Albany, GA for cargo aircraft only. There is plenty of available land. The weather is better than Atlanta and it would reduce air traffic and pollution in the Atlanta area. This would supply jobs for decades, improve the economy and bring in new businesses.
I propose to continue the I-185 spur in Columbus, down the West side of the district, to just north of Bainbridge, turning east through or near Thomasville, and connecting Valdosta. This would create jobs, and relieve traffic congestion and some of the pollution in Atlanta. It will shorten driving distances and conserve fuel. It will create jobs for decades, bring in tourism and business.
I also propose to complete the by-pass around Albany and build spurs connecting most small towns with Albany and the new Interstate. And I will work with Jack Kingston to continue the Interstate toward Brunswick then up to Savannah. I propose to build flood drains and walls around many of the rivers, especially the Flint. This would help with flooding, loss of life and property.
Reservoirs could be built in strategic places around the district that water could be pumped into during high water and stored for periods of drought, and local emergencies. This would also provide jobs for decades.
The 2nd Congressional district is the most neglected district in Georgia and has been since Reconstruction. I propose that Regional Offices not be in the highest rent areas available but in safe lower rent areas whereby 4 or 5 regional offices could be provided. Depending on the resources, offices could possibly be in Albany, Lumpkin, Thomasville, Bainbridge and Cordele. The current inaccessibility to your Congressman is unacceptable. A duty roster could be made whereby someone will answer the phone 24/7. Processing could begin immediately then up-channeled to a central data base to prevent duplication and fraud, eliminating time for a complaint to go to Washington then back to the regional offices. Volunteers could possibly assist in the smaller communities if not in violation of current laws. People in the regional offices do not have to stay there all the time. We have modern technology called a lap top and cell phone.
I support elimination of all pork barrel spending, and I support a balanced budget. Hiding amendments in bills that have nothing to do with the original topic is unacceptable. All bills need to be in simple language that anyone can understand. We need to limit the total number of amendments in each one to 5 and require them to be attached to the bill they amend.
I support the ‘line item veto’ for the President on appropriations bills.
There should be no Congressional breaks until a budget is approved. |
